A golf holiday on Åland — 54 holes, green fees and where to stay by the course

Åland is a compact golf destination: two clubs, three 18-hole courses and 54 holes in all, set in archipelago scenery. Ålands Golfklubb plays in Sund beside Kastelholm castle on two courses, Slottsbanan and Kungsbanan, and at the western end of the island, in Eckerö, you play the 18 holes of Kyrkoby Golfklubb. The two sites are about 24 kilometres apart as the crow flies — the full width of the main island — so both fit into one weekend. This guide covers what the rounds cost according to the clubs' own 2026 price lists, and where to stay next to the course.
Three courses, three price levels
Of the two courses at Ålands Golfklubb, Slottsbanan is the expensive one: according to the club's own 2026 price list a visitor's round costs €140 in July and August, €110 midweek and €140 at weekends in May, June and September, and €80 in October. Kungsbanan at the same club is markedly cheaper: €90 in July and August, €70 midweek and €90 at weekends in May, June and September, and €60 in October. The price list of Kyrkoby Golfklubb in Eckerö is simpler: €55 for 18 holes and €40 for nine, the same on every day of the week. One island, one weekend — and a green fee that runs from €55 to €140 depending on which tee you walk to.
What a golf weekend costs
The cheapest way to play two different courses is Kyrkoby at €55 plus Kungsbanan at the €70 midweek rate: 36 holes for €125. From Friday to Sunday Slottsbanan costs €140, so the weekend two-course combination comes to €195. All three courses fit into one trip via Ålands Golfklubb's combination ticket, where one round on Slottsbanan plus one on Kungsbanan costs €195 at weekend rates and €160 midweek — less than the same rounds bought separately. Add Kyrkoby's €55 and 54 holes come to €250, or €215 midweek. A buggy is €55 per round at Ålands Golfklubb and €40 at Kyrkoby; a trolley €4 and €3. We do not put a price on the accommodation here: we do not publish a price we have not read on the property's own site.
Sund: a cottage village and 36 holes on one headland
The six cabins, villa and beach sauna of Klingbergs Stugor at Kastelholm in Sund stand in forest, and the nearest green on the Ålands Golfklubb course is about 350 metres away. Our catalog still reads 980 metres, because we always measure to the clubhouse — it stands at the far side of the course, a good ten-minute walk. The scale of Åland shows here — 36 holes, the club restaurant and the accommodation all fit onto the Kastelholmsnäs headland, next door to a medieval castle.
Eckerö: 18 holes and the Sweden ferry four kilometres away
In Eckerö, Käringsund Resort is about 4.2 km and Degersand Resort about 7.4 km from the Kyrkoby Golfklubb course. Arrivals from Sweden land in the same municipality: Eckerö Linjen sails between Grisslehamn and Berghamn in Eckerö and states the crossing as two hours each way. By the operator's own published coordinates, the Berghamn terminal is about 4.2 km from the course and about 1.4 km from Käringsund, so the drive from the ship to your accommodation is a matter of a few kilometres.
Both venues in the same weekend
Sund and Eckerö are about 24 km apart as the crow flies — the full width of Åland's main island. Either base works: it is about 24 km from Klingbergs Stugor to Kyrkoby, and about 28 km from Käringsund to Ålands Golfklubb. In practice that means Saturday and Sunday can be played on different courses without changing accommodation.
Before you book a tee time
Ålands Golfklubb requires visiting players to hold an active membership — a golf ID — in some club, and under the club's own guest rules at least one player in the group must have a handicap of 36 or better, with the group's combined handicap no higher than 140. The club's six-hole short course, Prinsessan, costs €15 per day, but it does not add to the island's hole count: our catalog counts only courses of nine holes or more, the same rule everywhere.
