A golf trip to Estonia

A two-hour ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn makes Estonia Finland's nearest golf country. There is only a handful of courses but the standard is high, green fees are cheaper than in Finland and the season slightly longer. You can bring the car on the ferry, so your own clubs and accommodation near a course are easy to arrange. Note: the Golfmökit.fi distance catalog currently covers Finland only — this guide is an overview.
The courses: EGCC, Pärnu Bay and Niitvälja
The Estonian Golf & Country Club in Jõelähtme, about half an hour's drive from Tallinn, is the country's best-known course and regularly hosts international events. Pärnu Bay Golf Links is one of the Baltics' only true links-style courses, by the sea in Pärnu. Niitvälja Golf near Keila is Estonia's oldest, founded in 1993, and in southern Estonia you play Otepää Golf in hill scenery.
Practicalities: ferry, car, accommodation
Several ferries a day run from Helsinki to Tallinn and the crossing takes about two hours — even a day round is possible, though a weekend is more comfortable. Pärnu is under a two-hour drive from Tallinn, so EGCC and the Pärnu links combine into one trip. Accommodation ranges from the courses' own hotels to holiday apartments; prices are gentler than in Finland.
